How wide should a triangle shawl be?
Most of the shawls in this roundup are around 70″ wide by 30″ tall which seems to be an average size. The triangle scarves are naturally going to be smaller.
You will want to consider the size of the person for whom you are making this piece. Obviously, you would not want to make an extra large shawl for a smaller person or a small shawl for a larger person.

What is a good width for a scarf?
The width of your scarf mainly depends on how you plan to use it. If it is for keeping warm in the winter, you will want a wider scarf.
On the other hand, if your scarf is mainly for decoration, you can go with a skinnier width.
Most of the patterns I see range in width of around 4 inches to 8 inches wide.
How many skeins do I need for a triangle shawl?
Obviously, that depends on how large you want to make your shawl. For an average, adult size and lightweight shawl, you need a minimum of about 600 yards of a light yarn. Divide that number by the yards in your skein of yarn and you know how many you need.
Make sure and buy enough skeins (with the same lot number) to complete your project or you run the risk of the colors not matching exactly.
I hope you will give some of these crochet patterns a try. And, please let me know how your shawl turned out.
Also, I would like to say a great big THANK YOU to these designers for allowing me to share with you their lovely patterns.
Enjoy!
Annette
