Best Gift Under $100
Fat Quarter Fabrics of the Month
No question, anybody would be ecstatic to receive a box of fun, coordinated fabrics every month for an entire year.
Best Gift Over $100
Quilt Design Wall or Sewing Machine
This is a two-part answer. If you are buying a gift for someone who already has a high quality sewing machine, go for the Quilt Design Wall.
If, however, they do not have a sewing machine (or only have a beginner model), we recommend getting a heavy duty sewing machine first.
As you will see, some of these quilters gift ideas fall in more than one budget category.
Fabric, for instance, can be found regardless of how much money you have to spend, right? With a bigger budget, you can either get more or more expensive fabrics.
But, what should you get if you are not sure which sewing tools or supplies your gift recipient already has?
Opt for something more generic such as a gift card, a book or magazine or supplies that get used up such as pins, fabric or thread.
Gift Ideas Under $10
Fat Quarters Fabric
Can you really get quilters fabric for less than $10? Yes, absolutely you can. Here is a variety of fat quarter bundles that you can get with that budget.
Also, make sure and check the Coupon Page and the Clearance Sale Page at your favorite fabric store such as Joann’s where you may be able to score a great deal on more expensive fabric.
Sewing Tools and Notions
All quilters and sewers need the very basic supplies and they don’t have to cost a lot of money.
Taylor’s Chalk, for instance, can be purchased for around $6.
You can also get some cool gadgets for quilters such as a Magnetic Pincushion Wristband (super helpful!), Seam Rippers and Thread Cutter as well as a clear Quilting Ruler and Washable Fabric Markers.
Sewing and Quilting Clips
Just like pins and needles, you can’t ever have too many clips to hold your fabric pieces in place.
These are a lot quicker, safer and more convenient to use than regular, straight pins which tend to get lost and end up in someone’s foot.
This sewing kit contains 100 clips and a cute tin box for easy storage.
Pin Cushion
One annoying thing about sewing is that pins always end up rolling all over the place and so you really need multiple pin cushions.
Fortunately, there are a lot of very inexpensive pin cushions available that even come in cute shapes like these hedgehogs.
Gift Cards
Gift Cards are appropriate for every section of this guide because, of course, they can be purchased for just about any amount.
Three good gift card options for anybody that loves to sew would be Amazon, Etsy, Michael’s and Joann’s. Or better yet, buy one from your local sewing store, if you have one.
(Note: Etsy‘s gift cards start at $25)
Gift Ideas Under $50
In addition to all of the gifts for quilters under $10 listed above, there are many other sewing and quilting supplies you can find if your budget is up to $50. These include:
Thread Storage
Keeping all of those thread spools contained and untangled is easy with some simple thread storage systems.
I, personally, love this pretty wooden, spool rack which holds 86 spools of thread and rotates so you can easily reach the thread you need.
Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat
A good, quality rotary cutter and a self-healing cutting mat are absolutely essential tools for any sewing or quilting project and a good set will last for many years.
Note: Make sure the cutting mat is labeled “Self Healing” which last longer and resist the ridges from being sliced into.
They also come in All-In-One Sets which are perfect for beginners who don’t have any supplies yet.
Quilting Thread Sets
Quilting thread in a rainbow of colors is probably the one thing that is always an appropriate gift for quilters or sewers regardless of how many supplies they already have.
Each quilt requires many yards of thread to complete. Not only that, but most quilts are made up of many different colors of fabric so there is a need to a wide variety of colors and shades.
Fabric
Obviously, with a bigger budget, you can buy a lot more quilting fabric.
Your local fabric stores always have a great seasonal selection of fabrics which you can purchase online or in person.
And don’t forget, quilters also need lots of batting and backing fabrics.
Iron and Ironing Mat
A good quality steam iron is essential for quilting. It’s impossible to cut the fabric straight if it is covered with wrinkles and creases.
In addition, a wool pressing mat will turn any level surface into an ironing board. They are also lightweight and portable.
Fabric Scissors
High quality, heavy duty fabric scissors are undoubtably the most important tool in any sewing kit. A sharp pair of scissors is simply indispensable.
Electric Fabric Scissors
In addition to manual scissors, electric fabric scissors make a perfect gift idea for an avid, experienced quilter.
A good electric cutting tool saves tons of time cutting out all the different pieces of fabric.
Plus, they are not very expensive, ranging from $25 to around $50.
This video will show you how easy they are to use.
Quilting Kit
One of my favorite gift ideas for any crafter or maker is a kit. A quilting kit makes a great gift for a beginning who may not be ready to tackle something like a full sized bed quilt.
This American Flag Kit includes pre cut 100% cotton fabric pieces in a variety of beautifully selected reds, whites and blues.

This bin is super handy because you can see everything and don’t have to root around to find what you need.
Classes and Workshops
There are many options for online quilting and sewing classes. One of my favorite sites is Domestika which offers over literally thousands of classes in many different languages!
Note: Make sure and check your local fabric shops for classes and workshops. In my opinion, in-person classes are always preferable to online.
Quilting Magazine Subscription
As they say, a magazine subscription is the gift that keeps on giving. I still enjoy receiving magazines in the mail so I think this is a great, affordable gift for anybody who quilts and sews.
You have a few different options: American Patchwork and Quilting by Better Homes and Gardens, Quilting Arts Magazine and McCall’s Quilting
Gift Cards
As mentioned, Gift Certificates or cards are a great gift option if you are not sure what supplies your quilter either already has or might need.
Also, they give the recipient to pick out exactly what they want.
Check out Amazon, Etsy, Michael’s and Joann’s and preferably a local sewing store, if you have one.
(Note: Etsy’s gift cards start at $25)

As a very minimum someone who wants begin make quilts will need: Fabric, Batting, Thread, Needles, Pins, Scissors, Tape Measure. If you have just these basics, you can make a quilt.
